With the overflowing number of smart devices and other mobile gadgets, it has become super easy to communicate with people. Unfortunately, it is not just business or important matters that we communicate online. Cyber bullies have also used the technology to attack people and make their lives a living hell. Why is this happening? Let’s find out first what is cyberbullying and why it can b every harmful.
Cyberbullying is the use of any electronic device and the internet to send hateful and destructive criticism to a person. This includes messages via text, online messengers, emails, and social media posts. There are cyber bullies who just do this casually and not think about it at all and maybe they do it once or twice because they are feeling they want some attention. But there are cyber bullies who really use the medium in order to create their own self-esteem and feel they are powerful and important.
Cyberbullying can also be a means or an output for a person to get what they want. For example, in the work place, there have been many known cases of cyberbullying of a colleague so that the bully can take over a position in the company or blame the other employee for a mistake. There are also situations where cyberbullying happens just because the one doing the bullying is bored or frustrated and want to let out steam at other people. No matter what the type of cyberbullying it is, there is no question that if left undealt with, the situation can worsen and may even lead to fatal consequences like suicide or violent physical attacks.
How to Beat the Cyber Bully
There are many ways to beat the cyber bully. You can report to the authorities like your teachers, supervisors at work or even just to a trusted friend or family member. But if there is one way to beat the cyber bully in the easiest way without doing much effort, that is to not reply to them at all. We all know that for a cyber bully, the best satisfaction they get from their bullying is when the person they are bullying actually replies and this whole exchange of hateful and aggressive talk happens online. This exchange gives the cyber bully excitement and it gives him or her legitimacy that he or she is a person of importance and deserves to be recognized with a reply from the victim.
So if you want to really beat the cyber bully, don’t reply at all to his attacks. Just ignore them and make sure you use your time in more fruitful and productive activities. There may be times when the cyber bully will keep on sending you hateful messages and even post on social media some nasty words, but in this case, just ignore them and do not give them the satisfaction of your reply because they will just feel more powerful if you do reply.
